Information for London Stansted Airport (STN) ...
Information on London Stansted Airport and what to expect when you arrive.
Stansted is the third busiest airport in the UK. More than 33 scheduled and charter airlines serve 163 destinations across 38 countries from Stansted. Each year 23.5 million passengers pass through Stansted. Their are many leading low-cost scheduled airlines that have made Stansted their base.

The security and departure lounge areas at Stansted are shared by both domestic and international passengers. The departure lounge is comfortable with plenty of seating and has panoramic views of the airport. The airport information desk is located in the international arrivals area.

When checking in at Stansted you will find the check-in area is on the ground floor of the terminal building. To check on flight numbers and destinations there are monitors at the entrance to the terminal displaying upto date information and indicating which zone to check in at. Check-in zones (A, B, C etc) are clearly signposted by illuminated yellow cubes. For advice on checking in times please check your ticket or contact your airline. The following is a general guide only:

Long-haul flights – check in three hours prior to scheduled departure (El Al passengers should allow three and a half hours).
Scheduled European flights – check in two hours before scheduled departure.
All charters - three hours before departure.
UK and Ireland flights – check in two hour prior to scheduled departure.
When waiting to board keep an eye on the television monitors listing flight departures for your destination, boarding time and gate number. Boarding usually begins around 45 minutes before departure.

For all passengers not making a connecting flight your first stop is passport control, which will be clearly signposted on your arrival. There are two separate queuing areas - one is for European Union (EU) and British nationals, the other for all other nationalities. Once at the passport booth an immigration officer will ask to see you passport. You will also need any supporting documentation necessary for your visit. Also, please remember that your passport must not expire during your visit to the UK. Large queues can develop during busy times but please be patient, as our stringent checks help ensure security for visitors and UK residents alike.
